Autumn in Suttons Bay

Follow the Colors to Gilchrist

There’s a particular kind of magic that settles over Northern Michigan in autumn.

The vineyards and hills of the Leelanau Peninsula turn shades of gold, amber, orange, and deep red. The roads become destinations in themselves, winding past orchards, farms, forests, and glimpses of the lake. And in Suttons Bay, the pace begins to soften after the rush of summer.

It’s one of our favorite times of year at Gilchrist Farm Winery.

A Fall Drive Worth Taking

Whether you’re spending the day exploring the Leelanau Peninsula or heading north from Traverse City, autumn offers plenty of reasons to slow down.

Take the scenic route. Stop for the view. Wander through Suttons Bay. Then settle in at Gilchrist Farm Winery for a glass of estate wine and something from the kitchen.

The changing season feels different here — a little quieter, a little warmer, and especially inviting as afternoon turns to evening.

Wine, Dinner, and the Season

Fall naturally lends itself to lingering over dinner.

Our wines are made to be enjoyed with food, conversation, and the rhythms of the season. Whether you arrive for a tasting, stay for dinner, or discover a new favorite bottle to take home, Gilchrist offers a place to experience Northern Michigan wine beyond the vineyard itself.

As the days grow cooler, the atmosphere changes too. The glow of the dining room, the fireplace, and the last colors of autumn outside make this an especially beautiful time to visit.

More Than a Summer Destination

Leelanau is famous for summer, but those who know the region well understand the appeal of the quieter months.

Autumn brings brilliant color. Winter brings its own stillness. And throughout the changing seasons, Suttons Bay remains a wonderful place to gather, eat well, and discover local wine.

So if the colors of the season are calling, follow them north.

We’ll be here.
